Former Washington Congressman Norm Dicks has signed up Boeing to represent its F-18 Super Hornet and F-18 Growler fighter programs.
The Navy stopped buying the F-18s two years ago, planning to transition to Lockheed Martin's F35 joint strike fighters.
Production delays and cost overruns have stymied the F-35 program, spurring the Navy to warn of a fighter shortfall.
Congress responded by including an allocation for 15 F-18s in the 2015 budget. Boeing though wants a longer commitment to justify keeping its St. Louis production line open.
Dicks, who represented the Tacoma area, served 18-terms in Congress, stepping down in 2013 as ranking member of the Appropriations committee and its Defense subcommittee.
In Congress, Dicks was a reliable supporter of Boeing, which was headquartered in Seattle.
