Lindsey Kozberg, who led external affairs for RAND Corp., has moved to anti-smoking campaign Legacy in Washington as its first chief communications officer.

kozbergKozberg, who has been a strategic advisor of California Strategies in Los Angeles for the past year, will oversee strategic communications for the American Legacy Foundation's public education, research, community activism and engagement efforts. An attorney, she was previously VP of external affairs at RAND and earlier directed public affairs at the Dept. of Education during the recent Bush administration.

The hire of Legacy's first CCO comes as the organization faces the rise of e-cigarette use among teens. The Centers for Disease Control raised the alarm this month with a report that found that "vaping" among high school students has increased three-fold in the past year. "This is a critical time for our organization," said Legacy CEO and President Robin Koval.

Legacy last year re-launched its impactful "truth" campaign against tobacco use under the "Finish It" tagline. The organization was created from the 1998 settlement with major tobacco companies.

Legacy has also brought in Michael Cohen from the Walt Disney Co. as VP of corporate partnerships. Both execs are moving to Washington from Southern California.
