Legendary technology PR pro Maura FitzGerald has published "CEO's Guide to Shameless Self-Promotion," an e-book that helps corporate leaders become "brand stewards."

fitzgeraldShe wrote: "When a CEO is the successful steward of the corporate brand, everyone wins. The value of an organization is strengthened, employees feel a pride of association, prospective partners and customers are attracted by the ensuing halo effect, and customers, both old and new, develop a sense of trust and loyalty that supports and grows a revenue stream."

FitzGerald believes PR is a vital management tool for CEOs. "Strategic leadership, message-based communication delivered consistently and proactively is the best way to demonstrate your leadership role and the pride and connection you fell to the corporate brand," she wrote.

The book cites Steve Jobs of Apple, Richard Branson of Virgin and Jenna Lyons at J. Crew as examples of a CEO's creation and personification of a brand.

FitzGerald founded Cambridge, Mass.-based FitzGerald Communications in 1993 and built it into a 200-plus staffer and five-office enterprise before selling it to Omnicom in 2002. She's has counseled top management from Sony, Compaq Computer, Digital Equipment and Sapient.

Currently, she runs Version 2.0 Communications, an all-women PR and digital communications shop in Boston.
