Jim Gorman, VP of corporate communications for stock exchange operator BATS Global Markets, has moved to the trade group for high-frequency trading companies in a communications and content role.
Gorman takes a director of communications title with the Modern Markets Initiative, formed in 2013 amid criticism and scrutiny of the HFT sector. He handles editorial content, outreach and social media.
Gorman led communications for Direct Edge before its acquisition by BATS, earlier directed comms. for Deutsche Bank's DWS Scudder mutual fund operation and served as VP of comms. for Prudential Securities and Prudential Investments.
At MMI, based in New York, he reports to CEO Bill Harts.
The group has sparred through the media with author Michael Lewis over his 2014 tome "Flash Boys," with Harts recently inviting Lewis to engage in a moderated dialogue about his accusations against the HFT sector.
