Stop dumping on Brian Williams. I am not now, nor have I ever been a fan of Williams. The assaults on the former NBC News anchor sound like mob justice.

Though Williams may be an egotistical jerk, he attracted a robust audience, which resulted in advertising revenues for NBC.

Bankers, who screwed millions of Americans in the mortgage market and marketers of products of doubtful value, and performance, received mere slaps on wrists compared to the punishment inflicted on Williams.

He’s been held up as some singular example of journalistic malfeasance that may have cost him millions financially and a terribly mucked up image.

What the Williams case also raises--given its prominence--is the simple question as to whether he stands alone as having either exaggerated his battlefield experience or even had them at all.

Until and unless that question is or can be reviewed, it would seem time to back off the guy and either leave him to his ignominy, with the same chance as any other violator to regain his place professionally and personally.
