Donald Trump carries a stack of $100 bills in his pocket to hand out each day to volunteers along the campaign trail, according to a rather glowing profile of the billionaire Republican presidential wannabe in today's Wall Street Journal.

This bit of noblesse oblige brings to mind the shiny dimes that robber baron John D. Rockefeller used to give to people he met, golf course caddies and household help.

Ivy Lee, who is considered by some as the father of modern PR, advised Rockefeller to publicize this formerly private gesture in a bid to improve the reputation one of the most reviled men in America.

Lee took on Rockefeller after representing John D. Rockefeller, Jr. to counter the fallout from the Ludlow Massacre of 1914 in which two dozen striking miners and family members from Rockefeller-controlled Colorado Fuel and Iron Co. were gunned down by the National Guard, which then went on to burn down their tent city.

Lee soon had the pockets of Rockefeller Senior bulging with dimes. Newsreels captured the happy reaction of those who shared in Rocky's majestic generosity.

The Donald, a true PR master, hasn't suffered a catastrophe such as Ludlow. But if the Trumpster stumbles on the campaign trail, he may resort to promoting and expanding the great $100 giveaway.

Ivy would improve.

As for potential critics of Trump's royal style, let them eat cake. They are among the many "losers" in Trump's world.
