Dea LawrenceIt’s back to the future for Dea Lawrence. Variety on Tuesday named Lawrence as CMO. Lawrence, who was head of digital sales at the publication from 2001 through 2008, is responsible for driving Variety’s global branding and communications strategy.

“Dea is a born leader who possesses a unique combination of digital expertise and media savvy,” said Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, publisher of Variety, in a statement. “Her talent and passion for the Variety brand will reinforce our market leadership and prove instrumental as we enter our next phase of growth.”

Prior to joining Variety, Lawrence was the VP Western Region for TubeMogul and was the head of Western sales for AT&T AdWorks. She also served as VP for PointRoll/Gannett, where she ran numerous marketing campaigns for Fortune 500 brands.
