Miami-based agency Newlink Group has appointed Teresa Villarreal senior vice president. She leads the agency's tourism communications practice.

Villarreal, who joined Newlink in 2010, was previously with the Mexico Tourism Board in Miami, where she was Southeast region director and represented that country during North American trade events, and served as a liaison between cruise industry leaders and Mexican ports. Prior to that, Villarreal was cultural attaché to the Consulate General of Mexico, a position she held since 1995. She was also deputy director of international press in the communications department for Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo.

As tourism communications practice head, Villarreal manages the company's tourism team and oversees that practice's clients, which includes destinations, hotels, airlines and travel agencies.

Villarreal is stationed in the agency’s Newlink Communications unit, which, along with Newlink America, Newlink Political, Newlink Insights, Newlink Transformation and Newlink Factory, comprises the Newlink Group. Newlink, which was founded in 1998, holds additional offices in New York, Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Peru.
