Tronc Inc., the former Tribune Publishing, has ousted Los Angeles Times editor & publisher Davan Maharaj and installed digital pro Ross Levinsohn, former president of Fox Interactive Media and interim CEO at Yahoo!, as publisher/CEO.

Justine Dearborn, Tronc CEO, said the move is to refresh the LAT and bolster its digital capabilities.

Levinsohn has top jobs at AltaVista, CBS Sportsline, HBO and served as CEO of Guggenheim Digital Media, owner of The Hollywood Reporter, Adweek, Billboard and Clio Awards.

Most recently, he was co-founder and partner of Whisper Advisors, a media/technology advisory firm and senior advisor at Boston Consulting Group.

Tronc also named Jim Kirk, former editor/publisher at the Chicago Sun-Times, as interim executive editor at the LAT.

The company’s other papers include Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun, The Morning Call (Allentown, PA), Orlando Sentinel, Hartford Courant and San Diego Union-Tribune.
