NBCUniversal has recruited New York Post media reporter alum Claire Atkinson to head a team to cover business across NBC News, NBCNews.com and MSNBC.

She'll report to Catherine Kim, digital executive editor at NBC News.

Kim said the unit will cover the people, power and players that will transform the media business over the next decade. “We’re in a time where the media industry is facing incredible change due to technology, social platforms, the marketplace, consumer tastes and behaviors," she said in a statement.

Atkinson's team includes James Rainey, who covered media/entertainment at Variety and Los Angeles Times, and Jo Ling Kent, media, technology and social media reporter.

The yet-to-be-named unit will rely on current/former NBC News contributors such as Gabriel Sherman, Vanity Fair writer, John Huey, ex-editor-in-chief to Time Inc, and Steve Brill, founder of American Lawyer magazine, Court TV cable network and Brill's Content media watchdog.
