Lisa Witter, chief strategy officer for progressive PR firm Fenton Communications, and senior consultant Mikaela Beardsley traveled to Ethiopia in June for client The Elders to meet with advocates for a global end to child marriage.
The Elders are a group assembled by Nelson Mandela that includes Mary Robinson, Desmond Tutu and Jimmy Carter, among others. Members assembled with 70 activists from 23 countries in Addis Ababa last month to coordinate efforst to end child marriage worldwide. The group estimates 10 million girls are married under the age of 18 each year.
