As New York City puts finishing touches on plans for a ticker tape parade along the Canyon of Heroes for the Super Bowl winning New York Giants, it’s “Black Monday” in New England.

The place is devastated following the Giants' manhandling of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, according to a survey conducted by the Boston Globe.

More than a quarter (26 percent) of those polled are “sad” that the beloved Pats were bounced. That’s a step up from the 21 percent who are “numb.” Twenty percent are “philosophical” about the upset engineered by the “wild card” Giants. The rest of the Globe readers are either “drained” “ashamed” or “angry” about the loss.

More than half (51 percent) of readers say the Patriots “blew it” and now are the “most disappointing” Patriots team every. Geez. That’s a tough crowd considering the Patriots were 18-0 before going down to defeat to a tough Giants defense and some clutch passing by Eli Manning.

A majority of Globe readers (58 percent) have seen worse. They don’t rate last night’s loss as the “worst lost in Boston’s sports history.” The 1986 World Series sack of the Red Sox by the underdog New York Mets comes to mind, as does the 1978 playoff game against the New York Yankees as Bucky Dent lined a three run homer over the Green Monster against Mike Torrez to crush hearts everywhere in Red Sox Nation.

The Boston Globe is eating a bit of crow these days. Plans have been shelved to publish “19-0,” the book that was to celebrate the Patriots’ perfect season.

That volume was targeted for book shelves throughout New England that are already burdened by “Greatness: The Rise of Tom Brady,” another Globe publishing foray.

Oh well, there is always next year for the Pats. See you at the parade. Lets Go Giants.
