Penn’s pithy comments about the campaign are sorely missed. Where is the analysis about how Clinton sliced and diced her way to victory in the Lone Star and Buckeye States? Also missed: stories about nasty in-fighing in the Clinton Camp. Those stories generally revolved around Penn.
The Burson-Marsteller CEO vanished following the mysterious report in the Los Angeles Times on March 3 of his role as an “outside advisor.” There also was the very public putdown of Penn by long-time Clinton hand, Harold Ickes. Despondent over the missing Penn, this blogger’s spirits were lifted with the arrival to the media spotlight of Obama aide Samantha Power.
Obama’s low-key foreign affairs advisor burst onto the scene, trashing Hillary as a “monster.” You go, girl!
Ireland-born Power, a Harvard University professor and Pulitzer Prize winner, is truly blessed with the gift of gab. She told The Scotsman that Hillary will stoop to anything.
“We f***** up in Ohio. In Ohio, they are obsessed and Hillary is going to town on it because she knows Ohio is the only place they can win.”Brilliant and entertaining stuff--though a bit off because Pennsylvania, a kissing cousin to Ohio, is ripe for Clinton’s plucking.
Power was a breath of fresh air in the lighter-than-air Obama campaign. She had the potential to keep stirring things up over the next seven weeks until the do-or-die contest in the Keystone State.
Alas, wimps in the Obama campaign gave Power the old heave-ho today. Instead of sticking by Power, Robert Gibbs, Obama’s communications director, said the campaign has accepted her decision to resign. It’s unclear whether Power will still head the March 16 fund-raiser that is slated for Chicago.
There may be room for Power in the take-no-prisoner Clinton campaign.
