Whatever happened to Sarah Palin?

A McClatchy-Marist poll released yesterday shows President Obama trouncing the half-term governor of Alaska by a 56-30 margin. That’s an improvement from the 52-40 spread a month ago.

Independents have fled from Team Palin in droves. Obama shows a 28 percent bulge over Palin among Indies. That’s much better than the 10 point edge he has over Mitt Romney and the five point advantage over Mike Huckabee.

What happened to Sarah? Her hubris finally did her in.

Palin's decline began in earnest last month when she used the assassination attempt of Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords to launch an attack on the media. Poor, persecuted, pitiful Sarah charged the media with “blood libel.”

Her rambling video statement was made in front of fireplace with an American flag next to it. She failed to dance away from the rifle crosshairs that she had placed over Giffords’ district. “As I said while campaigning for others last March in Arizona during a very heated primary race, 'We know violence isn't the answer. When we 'take up our arms,' we're talking about our vote,''' Palin said. Pretty lame, indeed.

February has been downright cruel to Sarah.

Palin proved without a doubt that she is not ready for prime-time via her meandering attack on Obama’s handling of the Egyptian crisis. She told the Christian Broadcasting Network:
"It’s a difficult situation, this is that 3am White House phone call and it seems for many of us trying to get that information from our leader in the White House it it seems that that call went right to um the answering machine. And nobody yet has, no body yet has explained to the American public what they know, and surely they know more than the rest of us know who it is who will be taking the place of Mubarak and I’m not real enthused about what it is that that’s being done on a national level and from DC in regards to understanding all the situation there in Egypt.

"And in these areas that are so volatile right now because obviously it’s not just Egypt but the other countries too where we are seeing uprisings, we know that now more than ever, we need strength and sound mind there in the White House.

"We need to know what it is that America stands for so we know who it is that America will stand with. And we do not have all that information yet.”

Go figure.

Palin then made no friends at the Conservative Political Action Committee dog and pony show (Feb. 10-12). Every Republican Presidential wannabe worth his or her own salt appeared before the group. No-show Sarah (Did the American Conservative Union sponsor of the event balk at paying Palin’s hefty fee?) was upstaged by a Palin imposter and the enthusiastic reception given to Ron Paul.

Final proof that Palin is done came from a South Carolina conservative who is throwing her support behind crazy Michele Bachmann. He told McClatchy that the Minnesota Congresswomen is “Sarah Palin with a brain.”

Lord, save us.
