Will he or won’t he?

That’s a question that won’t be answered by Donald Trump on the May 22 season finale of “Celebrity Apprentice,” as the real estate tycoon once promised. The nation is crushed. Our potential savior keeps the U.S. in breathless anticipation.

The National Journal hints that the whole “Trump for President” circus was nothing more than a build-up to bolster ratings for NBC’s schlock reality show featuring Trump. Egads! We’ve been duped.

The NJ reported May 10 that NBC Entertainment PR rep Sharon Pannozzo “sounded a little miffed with The Donald’s false advertising." She said both this week’s CA edition and the finale are already in the can so there’s no chance for Trump to make his big splash.

Perhaps, The Donald’s ego finally got the news. President Obama nuked Trump’s campaign with the release of his long-form birth certificate and subsequent picking apart of the New Yorker at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

This week’s Gallup poll bears that out. In Gallup’s “positively intensity score,” Trump scored a zero, down from a four prior to the birth certificate release. That was the lowest of 13 potential GOP candidates. Mike Huckabee topped the list with a 24 score.

Though Trump scored best in “name recognition,” only 12 percent of the 1,500 Republicans and GOP-leaning people polled rated Trump as “strongly favorable.” Eleven percent put him down in the “strongly unfavorable” column. To know him is not to like him.

Since Celebrity Apprentice won’t be getting the Trump for Prez ratings boost, The Donald should do the right thing and pack it in next week when he goes one-on-one with Erik Erickson, editor of RedState.com, the conservative site.

The one-hour interview slated for 11 a.m. on May 17 shouldn’t be missed. It promises fine entertainment. You may not hear much more from Trump until the next Presidential election.
