The GOP women demand payback. Talk of an Oprah boycott poisons the air. Linda Ivell, group president of the GOP women, expressed solidarity with her “Republican sisters” throughout this great land. Those sisters enjoyed Oprah’s “entertaining, informative and female-driven programming as we raised our families and become more empowered as women.” The pitchforks are now out. The Republican women bash the Obama-loving Oprah for deciding to “sit out the greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage.” The women, of course, conveniently forget the trailblazing runs by Democrats Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton.
Feisty Ivell, in a release, says Oprah’s snub of Sarah is part of the liberal media’s campaign against the GOP, a tired old chestnut the Republicans trot out whenever the chips are down. Non-Republican die-harders know the bloom is falling quickly from Palin as the inititial shock over her nomination subsides and outright panic grips voters over the scary notion that Alaska’s leader would be in line to succeed 72-year-old John McCain.
Former New York Mayor Ed Koch is a guy who calls 'em as he sees 'em. He dumped John Kerry in '04 and campaigned for George W. in six states. Koch believes Palin is a disaster waiting to happen. He told Politico that Palin may be plucky and exciting, but she is in way way over her head.
“When her record is examined, she fails miserably with respect to her views on the domestic issues that are so important to the people of the U.S. and to me. Frankly, it would scare me if she were to succeed John McCain in the presidency,” said Koch.
Ed diplomatically left out the impact of a Palin Administration on America’s foreign relations. Just imagine a Palin/Putin showdown.
Sarah has no God-given right to appear on Oprah. And the GOP women can launch any silly boycott they want. It’s still a free country. But if Oprah really wants to help her buddy, Obama, she should pencil Sarah in for a whole week.
