The Bloomberg National Poll released today shows how months of Washington mudslinging has completely soured American opinion on national politicos.

More than half (53 percent) of respondents hold a negative view of Republicans. That’s up from 47 percent in June. Democrats do a tad better as 46 percent of respondents hold that party in contempt.

Since March, support for President Obama’s “long-term view” dropped from 55 percent to 43 percent. But there is a little good news for Obama. A backlash is growing against the Republican threat to repeal the healthcare law. Support for junking the president’s landmark achievement fell from 41 percent six-months ago to 34 percent today.

Washington’s fixation on cutting the debt is out-of-touch with America, according to Bloomberg’s results. Cited by 46 percent of respondents, unemployment is the No. 1 concern in the U.S. Only thirty percent are concerned about the deficit and government spending. Three-quarters of respondents are against cuts to Medicaid. About sixty percent nix gutting Medicare in favor of the voucher program proposed by Congressman Ryan.

Bloomberg’s survey shows an America that is badly off-track and a people with little faith that its leadership can make things right. Republicans and Democrats need a “do-over,” but do they care enough to listen to the American people?
