Dubya, of course, hasn’t completed faded from the scene. Vermont Senator and Judiciary Committee chief Pat Leahy is calling for a “Truth Commission” to delve into the ways the country was misled by the “Decider-in-Chief.” MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann recast his nightly feature, “Bushed,” to “Still Bushed” once Obama took power. The spot shows how eight years of Bush rule is still wrecking the country.
It’s hard for Democrats to rally around “Cool Hand” Barack. Barry’s all business. America wants a guy with some fire in his belly. The New York Times today assured skeptical readers that Obama has a pulse and isn’t completely detached from the Office of the President. It ran a front page story about Obama going gray after only 44 days into the job, making the case that the President is emotionally and psychologically wrapped up in his work.
Enter, RushBo. Limbaugh, by default, has become the face of the Grand Old Party, trouncing a bunch of not-ready-for-prime time players. A poll at odwyerpr.com found that that 61 percent of respondents say elected-to-nothing Limbaugh is defacto leader of Republicans. Only House Minority Leader John Boehner cracked the double digit mark (13 percent). Michael Steele, Mitch McConnell and Sarah Palin (the flamed out former shooting star of the northern skies) are mired in single digits.
The Democratic Party and its allies are putting the rise of the radio gasbag to good use. The Dems liken Limbaugh’s rooting for the President to fail as rooting for the country to fail. They are holding a fund-raiser/contest for the best message to RushBo in 10 words or less. The winning slogan will go on a billboard in Limbaugh’s hometown of West Palm Beach. Similarly, Americans United for Change wants supporters to send a note of congratulations to Rush, whom the group deems as the “Dear Leader” of the GOP. “Congratulate Rush Limbaugh on ascending to the Republican Party’s heights—by dragging it down to his level,” says a note from Jeremy Funk, communications director of AUC, in asking for a donation.
Limbaugh is a character overloaded with chutzpah. The Leader of the Dittoheads is so full of himself that he challenged Obama to a debate. That publicity stunt totally disrespects the Presidency.
The GOP is in the wilderness. Led by Limbaugh, the Republicans will remain lost in the woods for a very long time.
Gutless Republican National Commitee 'leader" Steele had called Limbaugh's program "incendiary and "ugly," but soon backed away from those remarks. He hails from the whipped puppy school of leadership.
The Republicans need someone with the clout and standing of an Arnold Schwarzenegger to stand up to Rush before he either destroys or completely marginalizes the GOP. America deserves better than an opposition party headed by a clown.
