Coverage of the death of 12-year-old Rory Staunton on April 1 after treatment in the ER of NYU Medical has continued to escalate and includes the creation of a website dedicated to Staunton nd a statement from Staunton’s family that condemns NYU Medical for its treatment of him.

Treatment by NYU ER as well as private physician Dr. Susan Levitzky, who is associated with the ER, is condemned.

“We believe Rory’s pediatrician ignored obvious signs of serious illness and sent him to NYU ER for rehydration, giving us, his family, a diagnosis of acute febrile gastritis,” says the statement, adding: “NYU hospital and its ER were in turn extremely negligent in their treatment of Rory.

NYU said there is no connection between the retirement of Bohren and the Staunton case.

Bohren's retirement was announced March 13, effective June 1.
