ThompsonThe New York Times Co. has named Mark Thompson, director-general at the BBC, president and CEO. He takes the post in November.

The 55-year-old was responsible for BBC World Service, which broadcasts in 27 languages, plus its collection of TV and radio channels in the U.K. He led the BBC’s multimedia coverage of the London Olympics.
