Fox News and Bill Clinton weren't the best of buddies when he sat in the White House. The former President was gleefully and routinely roasted and toasted by Rupert Murdoch’s right-wing cable TV network. Clinton’s shenanigans with intern Monica Lewinsky was mere icing on the cake for the unfair and unbalanced network.

Hillary Clinton, however, is a realist. The Secretary of State has a ton of debt stemming from her Presidential run. A lot of that campaign debt is owed to Burson-Marsteller, where her former pollster Mark Penn, runs things.

What is Mrs. Clinton doing to pay off Penn and his crew? In the spirit of letting bygones be bygones, Hillary says, "Hello, Fox TV." She is running a contest, raffling off the finale of Fox’s smash-hit American Idol as one of three exclusive prizes.

Fork over $5 and you are in the running to attend Idol’s season finale in Los Angeles. “You and a guest will watch live as American Idol judges make their comments and decisions on this year’s most anticipated season finale!,” screams an online pitch from political consultant James Carville. Do you think for a minute that Carville actually watches the program?

The other “once in a lifetime opportunities” are a day in New York with Bill Clinton (Sunday in the Park with Bill) and a Washington lunch with the Ragin’ Cajun himself and his good friend Paul Begala. Carville promises a tour of “all the amazing sights D.C. has to offer and who knows what else could happen!” That has hearts of political junkies throughout the land throbbing.

So rush to HillaryClinton.com and pull it for Bill. It would be a downer if Simon and the gang at Idol outpoll the former Commander-in-Chief. It also is a shame that Hillary’s people are cashing in on the popularity of Fox after it sliced and diced her husband so merciloulsy.

There really is nothing sacred in politics.
