When are Clinton-bashers going to pack it in? Rupert Murdoch’s gang is still taking shots at Bill Clinton for his dramatic trip to North Korea that resulted in the rescue of two American journalists. The Wall Street Journal has pounded Clinton for delivering a propaganda victory for NK madman Kim Jong-Il. The one-day photo-op is supposed to have given the “Dear Leader” the chance to show the world that he is still alive and kicking. WSJ columnist Bret Stephens today dismissed Bill as a “supplicant” at Kim Jong-Il’s table. Nobody at the WSJ has any idea about what priceless intelligence Clinton and his traveling party may have gleaned from the soiree. Perhaps Clinton planted the seeds of a nuke deal that would make the world a lot safer. Time will tell.The New York Post today took great glee with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s “gaffe” in Kinshasa. It slapped a picture of Hillary on the front page with the “I’m the Boss” headline. The Post’s psychiatrist/scribe Maggie Haberman analyzed that Hill must be feeling upstaged by Bill. This is how she began her story:
“I’m in charge here! An angry Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton tried to shake her husband’s outsized shadow yesterday in a rare burst of public bitterness after an audience member asked her what Bill might think about an international issue.”
Take a breath, Maggie. Clinton’s “explosion” is probably due to weariness than pique. The 61-year-old Hillary is in the midst of a grueling 11-day seven-nation tour of Africa. That trip includes stops in Kenya, South Africa, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo (the focus of Africa’s recent world war), Nigeria, Liberia and Cape Verde. That itinerary is not for the faint-hearted. Clinton has just returned to Kinshasa from Goma, which is called one of the most dangerous places on earth.
Rather than report on any good coming from the trip, Haberman surmises that Hillary might be bummed because she missed Bill’s 63rd birthday celebration last night in Las Vegas. Really? It matters little that there was a problem with the translation of the university student’s question. She actually wanted to know what President Obama--not Bill-- thought about China's influence in Africa. When told of the snafu, Hillary posed for a picture with the student. That's class.
The Clinton knocks are getting old. Both deserve better.
