Since Time Warner is a player in the Hollywood community, executives there must have been aghast to hear Glenn Beck, host of sister company CNN's Headline News, berate those “American haters” who lost their Malibu homes to the raging forest fires in California.

Conservative Beck was referring to those liberal Democratic pests with the sweet view of the Pacific.

There is no doubt that executives at Warner Bros., HBO and TW’s other entertainment properties live in Malibu or have family/friends that lost homes.

Does Beck think Mother Nature is trying to smoke out liberals? Is that why she sent the raging waters over New Orleans to punish largely Democratic New Orleans?

America takes take little comfort that Beck on Oct. 23 “explained” the wisecrack made the day before during his syndicated radio broadcast. Beck, it seems, always pokes fun at the “Hollywood crowd living in Southern California.” He said anyone with a brain would have realized that he was joshing.

That’s not acceptable. ABC’s Charlie Gibson, who has a brain, held Beck up to ridicule during last night’s “special” about the California wildfires that have up to one million Californians evacuating their homes. Does Beck think Charlie can’t take a joke?

The people most affected by the deadly fires do not live in Malibu. They mostly live in the San Diego region and Orange County. These are not Glenn's stereotypical French-loving, chardonnay-drinking, brie eaters. Wildfires can wreck the lives of more conservative people too, Glenn.

Beck can say anything he wants on his program, but belittling the losses of people in Malibu, San Diego or Orange County is just not right. Are we that callous of a people?
