Tom Nides, the former corporate communications and PR executive serving as chief administration officer at Morgan Stanley, has been named chief operating officer at the investment bank.

The promotion comes as his mentor, CEO John Mack, is exiting the investment bank in January.
Nides headed Burson-Marsteller for a brief eight-month stint in 2005 before returning to Morgan Stanley, where he was earlier in this career. The promotion at MS adds responsibility for firm-wide operations and technology, in addition to his CAO duties.
Before moving to B-M, he headed corporate communications and similar functions at Credit Suisse First Boston and MS under CEO John Mack. He moved back to MS with Mack in 2005.
Mack is stepping down in January 2010 but will hold the chairman’s role. Co-president and co-head of strategic planning, James Gorman, is taking the reins.
Nides’ promotion was among several announced by the bank on Dec. 8. |
