The 6th Avenue headquarters of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. is now bedbug central in the medialand after a bedbug-sniffing dog yesterday detected the scent of the critters.
The section of the fourth floor, which houses the main office of News Corp. and the Wall Street Journal, was cleared for a 24-hour steam cleaning treatment.
The saga began after a Barron’s staffer spread word that his apartment building had bedbugs. An intense inspection of his workplace commenced, but no bugs were found.
To be on the safe side and head-off a potential employee panic, the canine sniffer was recruited for action. The dog smelled traces of the varmints, but no bugs.
An internal employee memo says the decision to steam clean the suspected area was made “out of an abundance of caution” and to reassure employees their workplace is safe.
