Lynn Weil, press and communications director at USAID, has been named senior advisor to U.S. public diplomacy chief Judith McHale.
Weill, a former reporter for NPR and Catholic News Service, was communications director to House Foreign Affairs committee chair Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) while serving as the committee’s legislative aide on public diplomacy issues.
She held the same role under Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.), and earlier was press secretary for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee under Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).
Matt Armstrong, who heads the think tank MountainRunner Institute, has called Weil “one of public diplomacy’s best friends on the Hill.”
Weil’s deputy Lars Anderson has taken the press reins at USAID.
