The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has tapped Hill vet Jamie Smith as director of public affairs.
Smith, who took up the post on Oct. 12, had been communications director to former Senate Intelligence Committee chair Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) since 2008.
“We look forward to putting her background in public affairs, intelligence and international relations to work,” said Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, a retired Air Force lieutenant general nominated by President Obama in June and confirmed in August to fill the post.
Congress created the ODNI in 2004 to integrate foreign, military and domestic intelligence. The office last year tapped its first director of communications, Arthur House.
Smith was traveling press director for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential bid and worked in PR posts for Madeleine Albright when she was Secretary of State and at her firm, The Albright Group.
