Brooklyn’s LCG Communications is handling PR for anti-bicycle groups who want to rip up a bike lane alongside Prospect Park, one of New York City’s crown jewels.
Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes and Seniors for Safety filed suit last month to have the two-way protected bike lane removed. They contend the lane puts seniors and others at risk from out-of-control bikers.
Local media and bloggers have depicted the fight over the bike lane on Prospect Park West, one of Brooklyn’s most expensive thoroughfares, as a battle bankrolled by wealthy and politically connected Park Slopers who want to remove an “eyesore” by re-locating it within the Park.
LCG reportedly has close connections with former NYC Transportation chief Iris Weinshall, wife of Senator Chuck Schumer, who opposes the bike lane that is located outside her apartment building on PPW. The normally loquacious Senator, an avid bicyclist, has been mysteriously silent about the bike lane.
Linda Cronin Gross, founder of LCG, has a background in working on behalf public interest groups.
The firm of the former elementary school teacher has counseled Prospect Park Alliance, Stop Patient Abuse Now! , New York City Environmental Justice Alliance, Public Health Assn. NYC and United Puerto Rican Organization of Sunset Park, according to her website.
She has not yet been reached.
