Ben LaBolt, communications director for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, has been tabbed as press secretary for President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election effort.
He will join the campaign in Chicago mid-May.

LaBolt, 29, a former assistant press secretary at the White House and for the 2008 campaign, was spokesman for Obama’s two Supreme Court confirmations and handled energy, environment and justice issues. He started out on the Hill and left the White House to work former chief of staff Emanuel’s successful campaign last fall.
During the 2008 campaign, LaBolt handled national rapid response for Obama.
White House communications aide Katie Hogan was named deputy press secretary for the 2012 campaign.
Agriculture department communications director Chris Mather is moving back to Chicago to take over LaBolt’s post with Emanuel.
