The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has added Cassidy & Associates to its lobbying lineup to deal with Food and Drug Administration issues and comparative effectiveness research matters, according to its federal filing.
PhRMA's federal lobbying outlays dipped 16.9 percent to $21.7M in 2010 following aggressive spending in '09 to shape the healthcare reform bill now law.
Cassidy vice chairman and COO Gregg Hartley, who was chief of staff to former House majority whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), spearheads the five-member PhRMA team.
PhRMA CEO John Castellani issued a statement yesterday in support of President Obama's call before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to invest in the American economy. His group supports the policy to establish a council on jobs and competitiveness, streamline regulations and make permanent the tax credit on R&D.
Castellani noted that his trade group spent more than $45B in R&D in '09. The organization employs 650K and supports 3.7M additional jobs.
