BT Americas, the subsidiary of Britain's telecommunications giant, has hired the well-connected Crowell Strategies to plot growth in the broadband market.
The New York-based operation employs 4,300 people in the U.S. and Canada and handles corporate clients like PepsiCo, AstraZenica and Unilever.
Colin Crowell is a key player in the D.C. telecom scene. He was the top telecommunications advisor to Congressman Ed Markey (D-Mass.) for more than 20 years.
Markey was chairman and ranking Democrat of the House Telecommunications Subcommittee, which was responsible for landmark legislation including the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
During 2009 and '10, Crowell was senior counsel to Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski, working of the development of the national broadband plan that is a requirement of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Crowell also advises Sprint, Cablevision, Consumer Electronics Assn. and T-Mobile.
