John Parker has left the senior director of external affairs slot at UnitedHealth Group to head communications for the Virginia-based trade group for healthcare distributors like pharmacies, hospitals and medical clinics.
Parker takes up the VP/comms. slot at the Healthcare Distribution Management Association, based in Alexandria.
Parker led communications efforts amid healthcare reform debate for insurer UnitedHealth, which opposed the Congressional overhaul in 2009 and raised eyebrows when it encouraged employees to mobilize rallies against the reform push.
Parker previously oversaw external communications for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and was spokesman for the Association of American Medical Colleges. He started out in journalism as an editor and reporter for healthcare trade pub FDC Reports.
