Judith McHale, the former Discovery Communications chief who stepped down in July as head of public diplomacy for the State Department, has re-joined the board of directors of Ralph Lauren Corp.

She stepped down from the fashion brand’s board in 2009 on her appointment by President Barack Obama as Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy.
“Her global leadership experience will be particularly valuable as we continue to strengthen and expand our business around the world," chairman and CEO Ralph Lauren said in a statement.
McHale was with Discovery for 20 years and is former general counsel to MTV.
Obama has nominated former National Security Council communications advisor Tara Sonenshine to replace McHale at State.
