Kevin --Have we now reached a point again in this country where an entertainer is banned for what he thinks? (We've been there before during the McCarthy era, haven't we?) Williams is not a paid spokesperson for a corporation, who has to follow the company line. Most people do not take seriously what entertainers say about politics. What has resulted is making a one-day minor story into one that will last for days. Bad PR for all concerned. Bad for freedom of speech.
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (10/04):
Hard for me to imagine dissgreeing with Arthur, especially on matters of free speech. However, Williams is given special placement to do his stuff tht others are not and his commentary does come off as the "fire i the crowded theater" category.....and tht's truly a shame. What we also learn from such things is how real stories(think Murdoch's disgracing real journalism)are cast aside and even sometimes eventually forgotten....like how a nobody like Amanda Knox somehow got someone we do not know to cough uo a million bucks for PR. Williams has just bought himself a ton of great PR from covert loonies.
Veep (10/04):
Are you ready for some backlash?!
Bill Huey, Atlanta (10/04):
This is your brain on Nashville Gas. Next time "Fox and Fiends" asks you to be on, go out for a Hardee's Fried Baloney and Egg biscuit, boy. That's more up your street. And ditch that Atlanta Braves hat.
Kevin Foley (10/04):
Bill Huey - As noted on Morning Joe, the "A" on this goober's hat stands for something else.
Kevin Foley (10/04):
Williams, like Glenn Beck, has learned that free speech isn't free when you're on somebody else's air. Hank Jr. is not smart enough to have an original idea (sort of like Ted Nugent) so he merely parrots the rhetoric from the far right noise makers in which you cast those who disagree with you politically as "traitors," "Nazis," "demonic," whatever.
Don Bates (10/05):
Gee, I wonder if there's a discernible pattern here? Williams' Hitler. Perry's N.....head hunting camp? Gingrich's mailings about Obama the Communist. Etcetera and so forth. Republican conservatives losing their marbles or just showing themselves for what they are?
Fed Up In NYC! (10/06):
Oh the hypocrisy!
Joe Honick, GMA International Ltd (10/07):
In the end, this is not worth the time we are giving it. The network decided this on a PR basis and remains entitled to have done so. Fact is this is just one more story that is ediverting attention away from the massive misuse of its media power by Murdoch and company to which we should return. |
