Julian Green, who led media relations for MillerCoors, has moved to the Chicago Cubs in the new post of VP, communications and community affairs.
Green will direct non-baseball communications for the franchise, which has the dubious distinction of going 102 years with a World Series win.
The hire of political vet Green comes as the Cubs are expected to seek millions of dollars in public funding to help refurbish Wrigley Field, the second-oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts bought the team from Tribune Co. in 2009.
Green was director of media relations at MillerCoors and a press deputy to former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, working as deputy campaign manager and comms. director for his re-election in 2003.
Peter Chase continues to head media relations for the Cubs’ baseball operations.
