Burson-Marsteller has hired David Gong as senior adviser for corporate social responsibility & sustainability for its China operations.

He had directed the Beijing office of BSR, a non-profit that counsels companies on CSR issues. The owner of a University of Science & Technology of China physics MS, Purdue engineering MS, Miami University physics MS and Santa Clara University MBA, launched three tech companies and is a frequent speaker at events such as Berkeley Asia Business Conference, World Energy Congress, Zero2IPO conference and Cleantech Group Conference.
He has advised Schlumberger and Home Depot and worked with government entities such as China Ministry of Science & Technology, China Assn. for Science & Technology and U.S. Depts. of Energy and Commerce.
Chris Deri, B-M China CEO, said in a statement that “social and environmental responsibility is a key priority to the Chinese government and greatly influences their expectations of both foreign companies and Chinese multinationals.” He believes CSR will become even more important as China moves into its next stage of development.
Gong will coordinate his activities with Daisy King, head of B-M's New York-based US-China specialty practice and continue as counsel for China Charity & Donation Information Center, a unit of the China Ministry of Civil Affairs.
