George Shelton, who played an important role in the reputation rehab of Wal-Mart Stores, joins Hill+Knowlton Strategies on Feb. 15. Based in Austin.

Shelton will spearhead the WPP unit's reputation management and corporate practice.
At the giant discount chain, Shelton was senior director for insights, advocacy and outreach. He promoted the retailer's public policy initiatives and commercial goals via message testing, corporate advertising, issues management and online/traditional grassroots engagement.
Prior to Wal-Mart, Shelton was partner at Washington-based Strother-Duffy-Shelton, a political strategy outfit. He developed election strategies for Democratic Senators Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu and Governors Jim Hodges, Ronnie Musgrove and Roy Barnes.
Shelton was a political appointee in the Clinton Administration and director of communications for the Democratic Governors Assn.
