British Prime Minister David Cameron may be called to testify at the media ethics inquiry that was triggered in the wake of News Corp.’s phone hacking scandal, reports today’s Wall Street Journal.
The probe headed by Lord Justice Brian Leveson cold ask Cameron questions about his hiring of now former communications chief Andy Coulson, editor of the shuttered News of the World. Coulson was arrested in July, but has not been charged.
Cameron could face scrutiny about his relationship with News Corp. and the many meetings that he had with its executives including CEO Rupert Murdoch.
The Leveson hearing is investigating the conduct of the press and mulling proposals for government regulation.
The Prime Minister established the media ethics panel and is on the record as agreeing to testify, if asked.
