A native of Scotland, he is slated to join the foundation on Aug. 13 and oversee its communications staffers in New York, Bangkok and Nairobi, reporting to president Judith Rodin.
Rodin said Coleman is charged with using the foundation’s centennial year to highlight its work around the ground.
The foundation kicked off its centennial push in April, a year ahead of the 100th anniversary of May 14, 1913, when John D. Rockefeller established the foundation with a goal of “improving the well-being of humanity throughout the word.”
Coleman is chief external affairs officer at HUD, joining the Obama administration after working communications for the New York City Dept. of Housing Preservation and Development. He previously was comms. director for the NY League of Conservation Voters and led U.S. comms. for architecture firm RMJM.
