Former corporate communications VP Todd Gleason was tapped in March to head the merger team integrating Tyco Flow Control with Minneapolis-based Pentair.
Thorsgaard oversees internal and external communications, including media relations, and will play a role in government affairs.
She exits Medtronic after six years, most recently as senior director of communications of its spine & biologics unit after serving as senior director of corporate comms. for the company, itself. She was previously director of corporate PR at General Mills and worked on the agency side at Himle Horner and Weber Shandwick.
Tyco is spinning off the flow control unit to merge its operations into Pentair, which had 2011 revenues of $3.5 billion on sales of its water and fluid processing products. The companies announced the deal in March, saying the combined entity will be a $7.7B business.
