Entertainment PR specialist Scoop Marketing is representing 38 Studios, the video game production company founded by baseball great Curt Schilling which went under on June 7.
The company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, listing liabilities of more than $150M against assets of $21.7M. Most of its debt is nearly $116M owed to the State of Rhode Island's Economic Development Commiission, which in 2010 lured the company from Massachusetts to Providence.
“After ongoing negotiations with the State of Rhode Island and potential investors and other interested parties, the company has been unable to find a solution to the current stalemate,” said a statement from the Studio City, Calif.-based PR firm of music PR guru Larry Solters, who is serving as spokesman for Schilling and the now-defunct company.
38 Studios last month fired most of its 400 staffers after the release of its inaugural game, “Kingdom of Amalur,” posted disappointing sales.
CNN reported that the U.S. Attorney’s office for Rhode Island is looking into the company’s finances.
