New York City’s WNBC-TV (Channel 4) is dropping long-time anchor Sue Simmons when her contract expires in June, reports New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams, a good friend of Simmons.
Philadelphia-based Comcast is renewing the contract of Simmons’ co-anchor partner Chuck Scarborough for three years. Both are 68.
Simmons, who is the country’s highest paid local anchor, has been at Channel 4 since 1980. She found out last year that her contract was not going to be renewed about a year ago.
In January, Simmons was dropped from the 6 o’clock slot to appear only with Scarborough at 11.
Adams noted that Simmons wants to stay at the station and that Scarborough has lobbied on her behalf.
The columnist wrote: “Shriveling TV-land economizes by hiring young bones off Hoosier stations who know borscht about this greatest city on the planet.” |
