The Lightning Protection Institute, the trade group for makers of lightning protection systems, marks Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 7-13) with a campaign providing complimentary systems to fire stations in areas prone to strikes.
The LPI says lightning fires kill 12 people and spark 24,600 fires each year.

7-Eleven is holding a "7-Election," polling coffee customers at its stores on their presidential choices by offering Mitt Romney and Barack Obama cups.
Three of the nine "swing states" have shown movement after last week's presidential debate, 7-Eleven reports in an Oct. 10 update, although Obama has maintained a steady 20-point lead over Romney through the first four weeks, according to an Oct. 10 update.
In Denver, where the debate took place, Obama's average lead of 16 points was relegated to a near tie with Obama at 51 percent and Romney at 49 percent.

The Flower Council, the marketing agency for the Dutch floricultural sector, put together what they claim is the U.K.'s largest bouquet this week in front of the Tower Bridge in London.
The stunt, supported by Cow PR, for the council's Favourite Flower campaign. The bouquet stood five meters tall and included 12,000 freshly cut flowers.
The PR firm said women in the London area were invited via Twitter to come down and take a bunch from the bouqet and queues formed down the South Bank of the Thames. Coverage appeared in The Sun and The Daily Telegraph the next day.

Wendy's, with support from Ketchum, unveiled a new store design and logo Oct. 11 in a bid to "contemporize the brand."
The revamp includes "Image Activation" restaurants that feature a modern design which includes lounge seating with fireplaces, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi and digital menuboards.

The NHL's Stanley Cup visited the Orange County office of Mercury Insurance Oct. 3. The company is a sponsor of the NFL champion Los Angeles Kings.
