The Charleston Urban Renewal Authority (CURA) is soliciting proposals from qualified firms to assist us in:
" Establishing a strategic plan for carrying out the organization's mission.
" Developing an image and communications program as part of the strategic plan that includes the creation of a new logo (image package), website and public information strategies.
I. Background
CURA administers and implements plans for four urban renewal areas. In these areas, the Authority oversees economic redevelopment efforts including land acquisition, the renovation or removal of blighted structures, infrastructure improvements and land use regulations - all leading to the attraction of new private investment. The agency is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council. A new Executive Director has recently been hired to take CURA and its redevelopment areas to the next level of success.
II. Description of Scope
of Work
" The selected firm will lead the CURA Board of Commissioners and Executive Director through a strategic planning process that defines clear goals and strategies to take the organization to a new level of success. The areas of image, public relations and marketing will also be addressed during the creation of the strategic plan.
" Once the strategic planning process is complete, the selected firm will implement the following elements of the plan:
" Development of a new logo/letterhead package for CURA.
" Copy writing, design and rollout of a website for CURA.
" Copy writing and design of an informational PowerPoint presentation, including some original photography.
" Copy writing and design of a marketing brochure for CURA, based upon the PowerPoint presentation.
III. Firm Qualifications
The successful firm engaged by CURA must demonstrate the following experience, skills and knowledge:
" Designing and managing projects for similar organizations.
" Developing strategic plans that yield results.
" Experience with both print and web site copy writing and design.
" Passion for helping Charleston thrive.

Professional service fees are not to be a part of RFP responses. A short list of candidates will be selected for interview from among all proposals received. The Board intends to then choose one firm with whom to negotiate a detailed scope of work and fee. CURA reserves the right to make no selection at all, as well as re-advertise for these services if deemed appropriate.
