Utah plans to hire a PR firm to educate the public about the vital importance that the Great Salt Lake has on the economic and social growth of the Beehive State.

The largest salt water lake in the western hemisphere kicks in $1.3B annually to Utah's economy and is the home of many species of shorebirds and waterfowl.

Through press releases, briefing papers and media outreach, the desired firm will stress the "value to Utah for having a healthy Great Salt Lake as part of the ecosystem" and the "impact of a drying Lake on the State of Utah and the importance of preserving Great Salt Lake," according to the RFQ.

The firm also will "forecast of future conditions of Great Salt Lake based on population growth, climate variation and conservation."

Utah's Division of Forestry, Fire and State Land, in conjunction with the Great Salt Lake Advisory Council, issued the RFQ and to receive qualifications by March 31.
