Downey

The City of Downey, which is a dozen miles from downtown Los Angeles, is looking for a PR firm to develop and implement a comprehensive communications program and re-evaluate its overall branding strategy.

The city was a major aerospace center and the home of Vultee Aircraft, which built the A-35 Vengeance dive bomber used by British forces under the Lend-Lease Act during WWII.

Vultee was acquired by North American Rockwell, which in turn was bought by Boeing. Rockwell closed its Downey facility in 1999.

Kaiser Permanente is now Downey’s leading employer. Median household income for the city is $72K.

Nearly 74 percent of Downey’s 113K people are Hispanic. Whites comprise 14 percent of the population, followed by Asian-Americans at seven percent and Blacks at three percent.

Downey wants a PR firm able to “proactively share clear and timely communication of city services, programs and events to city residents,” according to its RFP.

Responses are due April 30.
