United States Marine Corps, Parris Island, SC

Beaufort County, SC plans to hire a strategic communications firm “to promote and defend” its three military bases—Marine Corps. Recruit Depot Parris Island and Marine Corps Air Station/Naval Hospital in Beaufort.

The bases are threatened by the Pentagon’s base realignment and closure plans and the impacts of rising sea levels and flooding triggered by global warming.

The Military Enhancement Committee of Beaufort County wants PR to make a convincing case for the installations based on their vital contributions to the national defense and the region’s economy.

The Committee wants “a factual narrative to address key concerns/questions about the bases and demonstrate their long-term value,” according to the RFP.

The campaign will be aimed at federal, state, and local officials; national decision-makers on base alignment; local media/military-focused national outlets; community stakeholders; and the public—especially military service members, retirees and veterans.

Responses are due July 30. Send them to Ian Scott, president, Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce at [email protected].
