AlexandriaAlexandria, a city of 165K bordering DC, is looking for a partner to handle PR and a community engagement effort connected to plans to develop a 1,200-acre tract in the city.

The Alexandria West and Beauregard Small Area Plans currently feature residential, retail, offices and open space areas.

It is home to a diverse population of about 13K people, of which 35 percent are Black and 23 percent are Hispanic. 70 percent of the households are renters with a median income of $73K.

Alexandria wants community outreach that includes visioning sessions, open houses, informal pop-up events and online engagement to obtain feedback from all stakeholders with a focus on groups that have been typically underrepresented, including non-English speaking residents, minorities and low-income people, according to the RFP.

The desired firm will have an understanding of urban planning and a track record in engaging with multicultural and historically marginalized people. 

Promotional materials will be in English, Spanish, Amharic and Arabic.

Proposals are due Aug. 25 at the city's portal.
