Lincoln

Lincoln, a Massachusetts town of 8,000 people located 12 miles west of Boston, wants to hire a firm to help it create a diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism strategic plan.

The town, which hosts Hanscom Air Force Base, wants to become a community that more fully embraces diversity and commits itself to trying to create the conditions that foster it.

The RFP notes Lincoln’s commitment to DEI “was brought into sharper focus and scrutiny after the murder of George Floyd in May 2020.”

Members of the community responded to Floyd’s murder by organizing vigils, reading and discussing books that address systemic racism and asking the town’s government to explicitly examine systems and actions.

The hired firm will access the strengths and weaknesses of Lincoln’s current DEIA practices and opportunities for improvement.

It also will identify processes and traditions that are exclusionary, create barriers to participation and prevent a diversity of voices.

Lincoln has budgeted $100K for the DEIA project.

Responses to the RFP are due Sept. 9
