New Jersey has begun an agency search to foster support and "safeguard" its five key military installations as the Department of Defense pushes for a new round of realignments or closures.

The New Jersey Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs furnished an RFP on Oct. 29 for the assignment, including research, community outreach, and government and public relations, noting the state's installations contribute $65.B to GDP and support 73,234 jobs.

New Jersey lost the Army's Fort Monmouth in a significant economic blow handed down after the last round of the Pentagon's Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) cuts in 2005. That installation closed after 94 years in 2011.

While Obama administraiton Defense Secretaries Leon Panetta and Chuck Hagel have pushed for two new rounds of BRAC cuts, Congress has thus far rebuffed those calls.

Powell Tate and The Rhodes Group, both part of Interpublic, have worked with New Jersey in the past regarding BRAC cuts.

The Garden State's military bases include the 177th Fighter Wing in Egg Harbor, Naval Weapon Station Earle in Colts Neck, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Wrightstown, Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway, and several Coast Guard Stations.

Proposals are due Dec. 12. View the RFP (PDF)
